5 BEST TREKKING ROUTES IN JEJU ISLAND FOR ADVENTUROUS SOULS

naver/tkaekf2002

Did you know that the whole Jeju Island is surrounded by trekking routes called “Olle” trail? Take a walk on the trail if you have anything to get off your mind and refresh yourself walking along a coast, mountains and fields. When you feel like being alone, Gear yourself now up and leave! The Olle trail is the right destination for loners.

The Olle trail consists of 21 routes. Some are short but tough and rugged, some are long but even. Some routes pass through a tropical rain forest, but some pass through the cool ocean wind. Although every route has its own beauty and magnetism, let me introduce 5 best ones for those who don't know what to choose among 21. Try at least one of these five.

Route 1: Siheung Elementary School to Gwangchigi Beach (15Km)

Yes, it is the first route from the starting point. This route is the oldest among the 21 and boasts of the beautiful scenery around. In addition, you can get to Seongsan Ilchulbong directly though this route. The combination of the ocean and mountain is epic here.

Route 7 : Oedolgae Rock to Wolpyeong Port (14.2km)

Mostly, the route pass along the coast. But, this route meets a fascinating trail "Subongno” on the way, in which wildlife and plants are well-preserved. Hard to pronounce, no? In fact, it's named after Kim Subong who volunteered to make the path and the steps with a shovel and pickax.

Route 10: Hwasun Beach Resort to Moseulpo (15.5km)

Most of foreign tourists pass by here on the bus, glancing over from the window. But, please don't make yourself a mediocre traveler, I know you want a better travel experience. If you are coming to Jeju in summer, Hwasun Beach Resort could be a good place to have fun and relax. On the way, you will find a odd-looking mountains, Sanbangsan and Song-aksan. At the end point Moseulpo, many must-stop restaurants are concentrated.

Route 11: Moselpo to Mureung (17.5km)

Long and tough, the route once made me completely lost. I was so embarrassed to find myself near a military base. By the time you reach the ending point, I bet you will have already forgot about other routes, for it is beyond comparison. On the way, you will pass though a graveyard, but don’t get too scared. When you step into Gotjawal forest with a mysterious ambiance, you will be proud of yourself for having made a wise choice. But, don’t walk alone unless you want to get a heart attack and make one of the graves your resting home forever.

Route 1-1: Udo Island (11.3km)

me

This is a route that goes into and around a tiny isalnd. Green grassland, stone walls, and the emerald beach resemble the whole Jeju island in microcosm. Or, just sleep a night over there. It will make your trip to Jeju even more memorable.
