BOX-OFFICE TOP 10 FOREIGN MOVIES IN KOREA

After top 10Korean movies article, this is time to list up top 10 foreign hits in South Korea from 2004 to 2014. I'm afraid that movies are all made in Hollywood. <Kingsman: The Secret Service> being more and more popular, who knows it could be a next top 10. As you can see, Koreans blindly go after Hollywood blockbusters.

10th. The Dark Knight Rises (2012)
Total audience of 6.4 million

Though the previous series <The DarkKnight> wasn't big of success with  4.1 million, ironically, it went viral afterwards and everyone looked forward to seeing its sequel coming. Finally, when the film was premiered, people had to wait weeks to get a ticket. Christopher Nolan's fame lead to <Interstellar>.

9th. The avengers (2012): 7.1 million

This film and Korea seem to have a deep connection. Some scenes of the second series were actually filmed in Korea and one of the starring actors, Chris Evans, appeared in Korean film <Snowpiercer, 2013>.

8th. Transfomers 2 (2009): 7.3 million

I can't believe all of Transformers series are ranked in Top 10 foreign films. One example of Korean's unconditional and irrational craving for Hollywood blockbusters. But Megan Fox was drop-dead gorgeous, all Koreans would agree with that.

7th. Transformers (2007): 7.4 million

Actually, it wasn't that bad. Better than the second one.

6th. Mission Impossible 4 (2011):  7.5 million

No need to explain further. Tom Cruise!

5th. Transformers 3 (2011):  7.8 million

This series is one of the most successful film series of all time. Why do so many people love these films? One thing for certain: loyal fandom.

4th. Iron Man 3 (2013): 9.0 million

Most Korean do not know Robert Downey Jr, but everyone knows Tony Stark! Korean women are crazy about this guy.

3rd. Interstellar (2014): 10.2 million

Christopher Nolan was always Koreans' favorite movie director, and it was no surprise to see the great success of <Interstellar>. In addition, while <Gravity> only attracted 3.2 million, <Interstellar> knocked its rival down big time in Korea.

2nd. Frozen (2013): 10.3 million

It goes without saying that <Frozen> is a great film. It was pure agony to hear all these OST from the Disney hit all year round. I saw even 40-year-old my boring boss singing in a Karaoke. This is how much we like Frozen.

1st. Avatar (2009): 13.3 million

No Korean people would have thought any Korean movie would be able to break the unbeliveble record of this movie with blue aliens. But 5 years later, in 2014, a Korean film <ROARING CURRENTS> broke the record with 17.6 million audience!
